Who
Qonflate is one person: Johannes Köcher, working from Merano, South Tyrol, in Italian, German and English. The company is small on purpose — the person who designs the system is the person who writes it, deploys it and gets paged when it breaks.
How the work runs
Work is broken into numbered phases and slices. Every commit is named by its version and the plain-English effect it had, so the log reads as a history rather than a changelog. Every claim carries a file and a line, and "not verified" is an acceptable answer. Nothing is called deployed until a probe from outside agrees that it is.
Why Qonflate
To conflate is to fuse separate things into one — from conflare, to blow together, as metals are fused. That is the work: estates that grew one system at a time, made to behave as a single thing. Hence the tagline, which is a description rather than a slogan.
